Boko Haram Massacres Nigerian Civilians in Horrific New Video
A video released by the Islamist militant group Boko Haram shows the massacre of innocent Nigerian civilians, with a terrorist leader explaining they are being murdered because they are non-Muslims.
The Associated Press reports the video (WARNING: graphic content), which was released to journalists on Saturday, shows Boko Haram militants executing the civilians, most of whom appear to be men, while they are laying face-down on a floor in what appears to be a dorm.
There are so many corpses that the killers have trouble getting to still-living victims to finish them off.
“We have made sure the floor of this hall is turned red with blood, and this is how it is going to be in all future attacks and arrests of infidels,” says a group leader in the video. “From now, killing, slaughtering, destructions and bombing will be our religious duty anywhere we invade.”
The shocking video’s release comes two days after terrified villagers fleeing Gwoza, in northeastern Nigeria near the Cameroonian border, said Boko Haram fighters rounded up and executed elderly people in two schools.
On Thursday, Reuters reported Boko Haram gunmen kidnapped 172 women and children and killed 35 other people during a Sunday raid on the village of Gumsuri, about 120 km (70 miles) west of Gwoza.
Nigeria’s Premium Times reports Boko Haram militants launched fresh attacks against the towns of Damagum and Mamudo after Nigerian military forces killed 70 insurgents near Maiduguri earlier this week.
In neighboring Cameroon, military officials claimed to have killed 116 Boko Haram fighters in the north after insurgents attacked an army base near the Nigerian border on Wednesday. Previously, the terrorists had focused their attacks on Cameroonian civilians. But as the group has grown more powerful in the area, it has turned its fury against troops as well as against innocent civilians.
Boko Haram has been waging a decade-long war for an Islamic caliphate, or state, in Nigeria. The group, which was designated a terrorist organization by the United States in 2013, has kidnapped more than 500 women and children over the past five years, including the infamous April 2014 abduction of 276 schoolgirls in Chibok. More than 650,000 people have been displaced as a result of Boko Haram’s campaign.
