Tacoma Math Teacher Meredith Claire Powell Accused of Illicit Relationships with Students
A high school math teacher in Tacoma, Washington has been arrested and charged with having illicit sexual relationships with multiple students.
KIRO reports 24-year-old Meredith Claire Powell, who taught at Lincoln High School, was booked into Pierce County Jail on Thursday afternoon on suspicion of child rape and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
Tacoma schools spokesman Dan Voelpel told reporters officials received an anonymous tip about Powell’s alleged sexual relationships with students on Tuesday and notified local police.
Powell will be arraigned in Pierce County Superior court on Friday on two counts of third-degree child rape and one count of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
Tacoma Schools hired Powell in 2012. She formerly taught in the Sequim School District. She is a graduate of Sequim High School.
