Florida Republican House Candidate Joshua Black: Arrest Obama and “Hang Him High” for ‘War Crimes’

A Republican candidate running for a seat in the Florida House of Representatives has called for President Barack Obama to be arrested and executed by hanging for ‘war crimes.’

The Tampa Bay Times reports Joshua Black, a Republican candidate for Florida House District 68, tweeted Monday that Obama’s alleged crimes warranted a death sentence.

“I’m past impeachment. It’s time to arrest and hang him high,” Black tweeted.

Black then took to Facebook to double down on his remark, citing Jesus and the Bible to justify his repeated call for Obama’s execution:

To everyone who was offended that I said the POTUS (President of the United States) should be hanged for treason, this is the man who droned Anwar al-Awlaki on ‘suspicion of terrorism’– not proof– and later killed his 15-year-old son for nothing more than being his son.

This is also the man who sought to have Bradley Manning and Eric Snowden executed for treason when they didn’t kill anyone, nor does the US government pretend to believe that they cost any spies their lives.

This would be exactly what the president has done to others and, as Jesus said, “the measure ye mete, it shall be meted to you again.” I make no apologies for saying that the president is not above the people. If ordinary Americans should be executed for treason, so should he.

So, don’t stop at impeachment. Remove him. Try him before a jury (the very right he arbitrarily denied to al-Awlaki and his 15-year-old son), and upon his sure convictions, execute him. Thus he has done, thus it should be done to him.

While Anwar al-Awlaki, an American-born Yemeni Islamic cleric, was targeted for assassination by drone strike because he was suspected of planning al-Qaeda terror attacks, his teenage son, Colorado-born Abdulrahman al-Awlaki, was killed in a separate drone attack in Yemen that the Obama administration called a case of the child being “in the wrong place at the wrong time.” The extrajudicial killing of Americans absent constitutionally guaranteed due process has been a major point of criticism of the Obama administration, as has its controversial practice of redefining the term ‘militant’ to include all military-age males in a strike zone in order to artificially lower the number of civilian casualties caused by US attacks.

State and local Republicans are not standing behind Black.

“It’s deplorable, it’s despicable, and it has no place in public discourse,” Susan Hepworth, the Florida Republican Party’s communications director, told the Huffington Post. “He should probably just go ahead and bow out of the race.”

“It is impossible to accept this statement,” Pinellas County GOP Chairman Michael Guju said of the candidate’s comments. “This is wholly unacceptable and unduly provocative.”

Chris Latvala, a Republican candidate for Florida House Distrcit 67, called Black “crazy.”

“You aren’t seriously calling for the killing of Obama, are you?” he tweeted. “I know you are crazy but good heavens, U R an embarrassment.”

Latvala later tweeted that he was “starting to believe Josh Black is a Democratic plant just trying to embarrass Republicans.”

Dwight Dudley, the Democrat who currently represents Florida House District 68, told the Tampa Bay Times he was “stunned” by Black’s remarks.

“It’s dangerous and unbecoming for someone who wants to lead to call for such violence and extremist action,” said Dudley.

On Tuesday, Black told the Times he’d been visited at his home by Secret Service agents. While the taxi driver said he’d resigned from the Pinellas County Republican Executive Committee at the request of Guju, he insisted he would remain in the House race despite a call from Gov. Rick Scott to “immediately withdraw his candidacy to represent families of Pinellas County.”

“I do not take orders from the governor,” tweeted Black. “I’m staying in the race.”
