All Saints Catholic School Aide Mia Cummings Charged with Sexually Abusing 12-Year-Old Student
A teacher’s aide at a Bay Area Catholic school has been arrested and accused of sexually molesting a student who was 12 years old at the time of the alleged abuse.
ABC 7 reports 29-year-old Mia Cummings of Oakland, an after school program coordinator at All Saints Catholic School in Hayward, was arrested on November 26 and booked into Hayward police jail on multiple felony counts of lewd acts with a child.
Hayward Police Sgt. Ken Forkus told NBC Bay Area that his department waited so long to announce the charges against Cummings because investigators were trying to determine if there were any other alleged victims. None have been found.
According to investigators, Cummings began sexually molesting a male student when he was 12 years old. The boy is now 14. Among the eight counts against Cummings: oral copulation, forced oral copulation and contacting a minor with the intent to commit a sex crime. Police say the boy told them Cummings performed oral sex on him at least 10 times.
According to court documents, most of the alleged sex acts occurred in All Saints’ kitchen. At least one incident allegedly took place in Cummings’ Oakland apartment. Authorities were reportedly notified about the alleged abuse on November 18 through a tip from a state mandated reporter.
Hayward police believe Cummings and the boy became close while he attended the school’s after-school program. They allegedly began communicating by cell phone and text messaging.
A spokesman for the Oakland Archdiocese, which oversees All Saints, told NBC Bay Area that Cummings has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Cummings is currently being held in the Alameda County Jail on $800,000 bail.
