Publicly-Funded Houston Charter School Teaches Holocaust Rooted in Theory of Evolution
A publicly-funded charter high school in Texas is teaching students with an anti-science textbook that implies the Holocaust has roots in Darwin’s theory of evolution.
Salon.com reports that iSchool High, a Houston charter school, is utilizing a textbook that links Charles Darwin’s scientific theory of evolution to Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler and his genocidal Holocaust:
[Hitler] has written that the Aryan (German) race would be the leader in all human progress. To accomplish that goal, all ‘lower races’ should either be enslaved or eliminated. Apparently the theory of evolution and its ‘survival of the fittest’ philosophy had taken root in Hitler’s warped mind.
Concerned parent Joshua Bass did some digging and found that the curriculum used at at iSchool High is ResponsiveED, which was created by Donald R. Howard. Howard is also the former owner of Accelerated Christian Education (ACE), which according to Salon.com is a “fundamentalist curriculum” that promotes the demonstrably false theory of ‘young-earth creationism.’ Positing that the earth is only 6,000 years old (because the oldest living things on earth are less than 5,000 years old), this pseudoscientific theory is easily disproved– by 4000 BC, human cultures were flourishing throughout the world, agriculture and animal domestication were thousands of years old and the biblical city of Jericho had been inhabited for more than 5,000 years already.
ACE made headlines last year when it was discovered that Eternity Christian Academy in Westlake, Louisiana, which accepts students paying their tuition with taxpayer-funded vouchers, was using a ‘biology’ textbook published by the company that taught students the mythical Loch Ness monster in Scotland is real and is evidence that evolution is bunk and ‘God’ created the earth and everything on it.
Critics claim there are dangers in allowing pseudoscience and fundamentalist fallacies to be taught in our nation’s schools. Scientifically disprovable theories like ‘young-earth creation’ and the ludicrous notion that humans and dinosaurs walked the earth as contemporaries are widely believed by tens of millions of Americans; nearly half of Americans surveyed by Gallup last year said they believe ‘God’ created modern human beings sometime in the past 10,000 years. Educated fundamentalists are not immune from such nonsense; US Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA), a medical doctor and member of the House Science Committee, calls evolution a “lie from the pit of hell” and believes the earth is only 9,000 years old.
