Jared Remy, Son of Red Sox Broadcaster Jerry Remy, Charged with Stabbing Murder of Jennifer Martel
Boston Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy’s son was arrested and charged Friday in connection a fatal stabbing at a Waltham apartment complex.
Jared Remy was accused of stabbing Jennifer Martel, 27, to death late Thursday night at his Windsor Village apartment at 1203 Sterns Hill Road, Enterprise media partner WCVB-TV is reporting.
Police records show that Remy was arrested at the same address on Tuesday and charged with assault and battery.
“Mr. Remy does have an open case from earlier this week. Mr. Remy was released on personal recognizance on Wednesday,” Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said.
Ryan said Remy and Martel were romantically involved.
Remy was fired from his Fenway Park security job in 2009 after he and another guard were implicated in a steroid use scandal. State police confiscated steroids from security staffer Nicholas Cyr, who told police he had bought the drugs from Remy, the Globe reported.
At the time, Remy denied being the supplier, but admitted to the Globe that he has used steroids in the past.
In 2005, Remy was arrested and charged with assault and battery after he was accused of beating up his girlfriend at his father’s Weston home.
