Idaho Man Ryan Havens Tannenholz Accused of Sex with Cat
Ryan Havens Tannenholz, 28, was arrested Thursday by Boise police. According to the Idaho Statesman, investigators allege he repeatedly raped the animal in a Boise home between January 2012 and January 2013. Prosecutors did not say who the cat’s guardian was or who reported the alleged bestiality to police.
Tannenholz has been charged with six felony counts of crimes against nature and one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty. If convicted, he faces a maximum of five year imprisonment for each of the felony counts and up to six months behind bars for the animal cruelty charge.
Flayrah, a website dedicated to furry fandom– a scene centered around fictional animated animal characters with human personalities and characteristics– claims Tannenholz was a devotee of the subculture. According to Flayrah:
Charles McClure, a spokesman for the Boise Police Department, said the allegations against Tannenholz were “definitely unusual.” In the eight years he’s been with the department, McClure says he’s only seen a case like this once or twice.
But such crimes do occur with some regularity. Two weeks ago, Oklahoma City police arrested 23-year-old Kristina Michelle Brown, who claimed that she had sex with her cat. Earlier this year, a Pennsylvania man was convicted of raping a 10-year-old boy and his family cat. And in 2011, a meth-crazed Iowa man was sentenced to two years behind bars for raping a cat before tossing it from a seventh floor apartment window.
