Ossining Teacher John Azabache Accused of Illicit Relationship with Student
A New York high school teacher has been arrested and charged with having an illicit sexual relationship with a female student.
The Associated Press reports 31-year-old John Azabache, a math teacher at Ossining High School in Ossining, Westchester County, was arraigned on Friday. That was supposed to be his wedding day; his erstwhile fiance is now a prosecution witness in the case against him.
According to prosecutors, Azabache had sex with the 16-year-old girl twice since March.
Azabache is charged with two counts of third degree rape. He has pleaded not guilty. He also posted $50,000 bail to secure his release from jail.
Raymond Sanchez, Ossining’s school superintendent, told the AP that officials were “disturbed and appalled” at the charges against Azabache. The teacher has been “administratively reassigned” and banned from school grounds, Sanchez said.
