Brazosport High School Teacher Nikki Marlise Scherwitz Accused of Illicit Relationship with Student
A high school teacher in Texas has been arrested and fired after allegedly engaging in an inappropriate sexual relationship with an underage male student.
KTRK reports that 25-year-old Nikki Marlise Scherwitz, who taught 10th grade English at Brazosport High School in Freeport, was arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child and improper relationship between educator and student.
According to Freeport police, Scherwitz began exchanging explicit text messages with the student, which led to a sexual relationship that lasted for about two weeks leading up to prom night. The teacher allegedly attended a private after-prom house party and left with the boy.
KHOU reports that Scherwitz is free after posting a $50,000 bond.
Several cases of alleged teacher-student sexual relationships have made headlines in recent days. On Wednesday, 31-year-old Jennifer Vigil, a science teacher at Pojoaque Valley High School in Santa Fe, New Mexico, was arrested and charged with coercing a male student into sex acts.
On Tuesday, Dan Marler, a teacher at Soldan International Studies High School in St. Louis, Missouri, was arrested and charged with 11 counts related to the alleged sodomizing of an underage male student.
