‘Douche du Jour’: Conservative Radio Host Bob Davis to Newtown Victims’ Families: “Go to Hell”

Davis & EmmerThe conservative host of a Minnesota radio show has raised eyebrows and ire by telling relatives of Newtown, Connecticut school shooting victims to “go to hell.”

The Raw Story reports that Bob Davis, co-host of Davis & Emmer, a morning drive-time program that airs on Twin Cities News Talk AM 1130, blasted individuals who lost loved ones in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre and then spoke out in support of gun control.

“I have something I want to say to the victims of Newtown, or any other shooting,” Davis said during last Friday’s broadcast. “I don’t care if it’s here in Minneapolis or anyplace else. Just because a bad thing happened to you doesn’t mean you get to put a king in charge of my life. I’m sorry that you suffered a tragedy, but you know what? Deal with it, and don’t force me to lose my liberty, which is a greater tragedy than your loss. I’m sick and tired of seeing these victims trotted out, given rides on Air Force One, hauled into the Senate well, and everyone is just afraid– they’re terrified of these victims. I would stand in front of them and tell them, ‘go to hell.'”

Instead of apologizing for attacking those who lost family and friends to one of the worst acts of gun violence in modern US history– 26 people, including 20 young children were murdered in the December shooting spree, Davis said that the Newtown families are fair game for criticism because they are now “public personalities.”

“Victims should not be exploited,” he said on Monday. “It does not help them grieve, it does not help us grieve and it does not advance the cause of liberty. But they are, and so they become public personalities and part of the political arena. And so be it, and we’ll leave it at that.”

Several Republican lawmakers and many conservative pundits have criticized President Obama for involving Newtown families in the national gun control debate.

“I think it’s so unfair of the administration to hurt these families, to make them think that this has something to do with them when, in fact, it doesn’t,” Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) opined.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), a Tea Party favorite, lambasted Obama for using Sandy Hook victims’ relatives as “props.”

Last week, Fox News host Sean Hannity slammed what he called the “naked exploitation of dead children and grieving families,” while his guest, self-described polemicist Ann Coulter, accused Democrats of “playing with these victims.”
