Chinese BU Grad Student Lu Lingzi Identified as Third Boston Marathon Bombing Fatality
The third person to die in Monday’s terrorist attack on the Boston Marathon has been identified as a Chinese graduate student attending Boston University.
Lu Lingzi of Shenyang, Liaoning province, has been confirmed as the third person to die in Monday’s bombing attack on the iconic marathon.
Boston University officials confirmed that the young woman, in her early 20s, was studying mathematics and statistics and was scheduled to graduate in 2015, the Boston Globe reports. She had previously studied international trade at Beijing Institute of Technology before coming to study in the US.
Lu was reportedly watching the marathon with two friends when two deadly blasts rocked the finish line area of the race at 2:50 p.m., killing 3 and wounding more than 140 people. Also killed were 8-year-old Martin Richard of Boston and 29-year-old Arlington restaurant manager Krystle Campbell.
Lu was described as an “excellent student” and “particularly smart and simple” by former teachers. She also studied at the University of California, Riverside for a semester.
On Wednesday morning, Reuters reported that investigators believe they have identified a suspect in the attack after examining a security video. No further details were released.
