NYPD Cop Rosette Samuel Shoots 1-Year-Old Son, Boyfriend, in Brooklyn Double Murder-Suicide
An off-duty New York police officer shot and killed her infant son and her boyfriend before turning the gun on herself and ending her life on Monday morning.
The New York Daily News reports that 43-year-old Rosette Samuel first shot her baby’s father, Dason Peters, in her East Flatbush, Brooklyn apartment. According to police, Peters was discovered face-down, covered in blood, in a hallway leading to the kitchen. Samuel then shot her 1-year-old son Dylan in the chest, killing him, before shooting herself dead. Their bodies were found at around 8:30 Monday morning.
Samuel’s son from a previous relationship, 19-year-old Dondre Samuel, escaped from the scene and notified authorities. The teen told police that his mother and her boyfriend had been arguing all night and that Rosette had been walking around with a gun in her hand on Monday morning. Shortly before she was to leave for work, Dondre heard gunshots.
Witnesses told the Daily News that the teen escaped the apartment by climbing through a second-story window as the shooting unfolded.
“He was jumping from the second floor to the first. He was frantic,” Anthony Beckford, 18, told the paper. “His knees, elbows were scraped, bloodily. He couldn’t really talk; he was running for his life. He just said, ‘look, look,’ and pointed at a body. We saw a body on the first floor, facing up and blood all over.”
Samuel, a 13-year NYPD veteran, was assigned to the 108th Precinct in Queens.
The Associated Press reports that police are investigating the incident to determine Samuel’s motive.
Earlier this year, Hans Pieter Walters, a 52-year-old lieutenant with the Las Vegas Metro Police, shot his wife and 5-year-old son to death before killing himself in the family’s Boulder City, Nevada home.
