Orlando Police: Jones High ‘Teacher of the Year’ Hugh Broomes Had Sex with 16-Year-Old Student on Campus
Hugh Broomes, 57, was awarded ‘teacher of the year’ honors at Jones High School last year. But now he’s in big trouble after finding himself accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl 10 times since last November. WESH reports that Broomes, who taught language arts and coached girls’ soccer, is being held without bond in the Orange County Jail. He will be charged with 10 counts each of sexual battery and unlawful sex with a minor.
School officials said that Broomes was removed from the classroom on Monday and placed on paid leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
Broomes’ arrest comes just days after Patience Perez, a former security official at Virginia Beach Renaissance Academy in Virginia, was arrested and charged with conspiring with a 15-year-old student with whom she was allegedly having a sexual relationship to murder her husband.
