Swedish Church Camp Gives 14-Year-Olds ‘Shagging Diplomas’
A youth church camp in Sweden is raising eyebrows and ire among parents who were shocked to learn that their teen children were awarded ‘sex diplomas.’
The Independent reports that 14-year-olds at a Lutheran Church confirmation camp in Ronneby, about 300 miles (500 km) southwest of Stockholm, attended a course called ‘Love and Sexuality.’ After completing the course, the teens were handed certificates attesting that they were “qualified for sex.”
Vicar Mats-Ola Nylen told reporters that the course was taught by a man claiming to work for the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education (RFSU). Here’s where things get bizarre– according to the Independent, the man had not worked for the organization for years.
RFSU spokeswoman Josefin Morge told Agence France-Presse that her organization stopped handing out the sex qualification certificates in 2007 and that they were used in a campaign “not primarily geared at youths.”
Although the age of sexual consent in Sweden is 15, and although RFSU publishes how-to literature about sex for teens, parents were understandably upset about their children learning about “giving someone a blow job” at a church camp.
“The whole camp revolves around different aspects of friendships and relationships,” Vicar Nylen told AFP. “In the past, young people have complained that the church doesn’t talk about these issues,” he added.
The Telegraph reports that Nylen felt betrayed by the man who taught the class and handed out the “shagging diplomas.”
