Video: Washington Mom Rachelle Braaten Gives Bong Hit to 22-Month-Old Son
A mother in Washington state has been arrested and charged in connection with a video that shows her giving a bong hit of marijuana to her 22-month-old son.
Rachelle Braaten, 24, of Centralia was arrested last Friday when local police went to her home to check on her young son’s welfare. Officers from Centralia’s anti-crime team found 40 cannabis plants in Braaten’s home and arrested Tyler Lee, the child’s father and Braaten’s fiancee, as well. Lee claimed he was a medical marijuana user, but also allegedly confessed to selling the plants to a local dispensary.
Q13Fox.com reports that Braaten was charged with manufacture of marijuana and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance to a minor. Lee was charged with manufacture of marijuana and unlawful possession of a firearm.
It is unclear whether police learned of the video of the bong-toking baby before going to Braaten’s home or if they discovered the shocking footage afterwards. In the video, the toddler takes two small hits from a large bong held by Braaten. She laughs as her son chokes on the marijuana smoke.
Braaten now says she feels “horrible” about the incident. “I guess it was a joke and a stupid mistake and wasn’t really funny,” she allegedly told police.
KOMO reports that the boy, along with Braaten’s 5-year-old child, have been placed in protective custody. Braaten remains in jail on a $5,000 bail. Lee was released on Monday.
