Christina Regusters Arrested for Kidnapping, Rape of 5-Year-Old West Philadelphia Girl
Christina Regusters, 19, was taken into police custody along with three other people from a home searched by Philadelphia police last week. The other three were released on Thursday. Police are investigating the January 14 abduction and rape of a 5-year-old girl from Bryant Elementary School at Cedar Avenue near 60th Street in Cobbs Creek. The child was kidnapped by someone, allegedly Regusters, who was disguised in a black Muslim veil similar to one worn by the victim’s mother.
Capt. John Darby of the police Special Victims’ Unit told reporters at a news conference that Regusters will be charged with kidnapping, rape, conspiracy, aggravated assault and related charges in connection with the horrific crime. According to police, Regusters worked at an after-school daycare program the girl attended.
The little girl was found shivering and half-naked in a playground about half a mile from her school the morning after her abduction. The girl told a passerby that she had been “stolen” and repeatedly mentioned a talking bird in the home where she’d been taken that would “peck her eyes out.” Investigators found a talking parrot inside the two-story rowhouse on Walton Avenue near 62nd Street where she had been taken.
According to police, the kidnapper in the Muslim veil pulled the girl from her kindergarten class and took her to the Walton Avenue home. The victim was able to retrace her steps for police, leading them to the house where was taken and sexually assaulted.
“The girl’s incredible. She’s been a big help to us,” Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey told NBC 10. “She’s gone through a lot of trauma, but she was still able to provide some information that proved to be very helpful to us.”
Investigators recovered a t-shirt the victim was forced to wear with Regusters’ DNA on it. She is being held on $4 million bail.
