An argument in the library of a Texas community college ended with shots fired and three people hospitalized with injuries.

KPRC reports that the incident happened at the North Harris campus of Lone Star College, just north of George Bush Houston Airport, around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

“We found that the incident was not an active shooter incident but was an altercation between two individuals,” Harris County Sheriff’s Office Major Armonda Tello told reporters at an afternoon news conference. “One of the individuals did have student identification. During the altercation, there was a maintenance man that was injured and shot due to crossfire. Another individual at the scene was transported to the hospital for a medical reason.”

The maintenance man, who was described as in his 50s, was shot in the leg and is listed in stable condition.

The alleged gunman, 22-year-old Carlton Berry, has been arrested.

KHOU reported a male being brought out of a library handcuffed to a stretcher.

NBC reports that the campus was placed on lockdown following the shooting, with students advised to continue sheltering in place. Several Aldine ISD schools were also placed on lockdown while the manhunt unfolds.

Student Brittany Mobley witnessed the altercation between the two men.

“I saw two dudes basically get into an altercation and the dude that shot, he basically got angry and started shooting the other guy,” Mobley told KHOU. “He had it [the gun] hidden in his clothes… and then after that, he pulled it out and started shooting the other guy and accidentally shot another dude.”

Other students were terrified when they realized a shooting was occurring at their school.

“I was waiting for my English class to start,” student Amanda Vasquez told KPRC. “It was five minutes before class and all of a sudden, I heard shots fired and people started rushing in the hallway. A few students even came into our room seeking shelter and we closed the door and we pushed the table against the door and we were hiding.”

“You never think this is going to happen to you,” Vasquez added.
