New Mexico Teen Nehemiah Griego Allegedly Shoots, Kills 5 People, Including 3 Children, in Albuquerque Home
A New Mexico teen has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly shooting dead 5 people, including 3 children, in an Albuquerque home on Saturday.
KOAT reports that the shooting occurred in Albuquerque’s South Valley.
Bernalillo County sheriff’s deputies said that they were called to the 2800 block of Long Lane Southwest to investigate a possible homicide around 9:15 p.m. Saturday. Responding deputies found a man, a woman and three children inside the home, all of whom had been shot multiple times.
KRQE reports that Nehemiah Griego, age 15, was arrested and charged with three counts of murder and three counts of child abuse resulting in death.
The victims have been identified by KOB 4 as Gregory Griego, the alleged shooter’s father and a former pastor at Cavalry Albuquerque Church; his wife Sara Griego, 40 and three of their 10 children, Zephania Griego, 9; Jael Griego, 5 and Angelina Griego, 2.
Police say Griego used an AR-15 assault rifle in the shooting. Several other weapons were also found in the home.
The Griego family released the following statement:
“Our family is grieving this terrible tragedy. We appreciate the prayers and support we have received and request that the media honor our family’s privacy during this difficult time.”
