Obama Administration Will Not Build Death Star

“The administration does not support blowing up planets”… only poor Muslim countries.

The Obama administration has formally responded to an official White House petition urging the government to build a moon-sized Death Star like the one in the popular “Star Wars” films.

petition on the White House website calling on the administration to “secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016” collected more than the 25,000 signatures needed to secure an official response. The petition read, in part:

“By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a death star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration and more, and strengthen our national defense.”

The White House has officially responded to the Death Star petition, stating that no such weapon will be built.

“The administration shares your desire for job creation and strong national defense,” Paul Shawcross, chief of the science and space branch at the White House Office of Management and Budget wrote. He continued:

“Here are a few reasons:

* The construction of the Death Star has been estimated to cost more than $850,000,000,000,000,000. We’re working hard to reduce the deficit, not expand it.

* The administration does not support blowing up planets.

* Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a death star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship?”

So much for that idea. But all joking aside, war in space is not something that only exists in a “galaxy far, far away.” The United States has actually planned for space militarization and domination for decades. There was, of course, Ronald Reagan’s notorious ‘Star Wars’ spaced-based laser missile defense boondoggle in the 1980s. A 2000 blueprint for US global– and space– domination drawn up by the Project for the New American Century (PNAC), a far-right group whose members include Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, John Bolton and Jeb Bush, called for American control of outer space via a new US Space Forces.

A 2004 Air Force plan called for “deception, disruption, denial, degradation and destruction” in outer space as part of a recommendation by then-Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to develop space-based weapons in contravention of international treaty.

The US has also been developing and testing the X-37B space drone, which some observers believe is a prototype for a ‘precision global strike vehicle’– a space bomber— that could strike from the heavens anywhere on earth within 90 minutes of receiving orders to attack.

There was even a US plan to launch nuclear weapons to the moon and detonate them in a bid to impress and scare the Soviet Union.
