Brendalyz Morales,15, Killed by Brother in Milwaukee Shooting Accident
Brendalyz Morales, a student who attended Milwaukee South Division High School, was shot dead, allegedly by her as-yet unidentified 18-year-old brother, at around 4:00 a.m. at a home near the intersection of South Cesar Chavez Drive and West Orchard street on Milwaukee’s south side.
Romulo Santos, the victim’s brother-in-law, told NBC 4 that the shooting was an accident.
“They say he dropped the gun on the floor and he shot her,” Santos said. “She was going to school, trying to do her thing, but now she will be in a better place.”
“It was an accident. It was not on purpose,” Isabel Rodriguez, the victim’s mother, told CBS 58, adding that the siblings enjoyed a great relationship.
“When I walked out of my room, he kept telling Brendalyz to forgive him,” Rodriguez said. “He said the gun just fell, and it was an accident.”
Police have taken the victim’s 18-year-old brother into custody for questioning. He reportedly has special needs and it was unclear how or why he was in possession of a firearm.
“My son just doesn’t understand things quickly,” Rodriguez said. “You have to explain things to him several times for him to understand well.”
Morales is at least the sixth child to be shot to death in the United States in 2013.
