North Carolina High School Teacher Kristina Ngum Accused of Sex with Student
A North Carolina high school teacher and cheerleading coach has been arrested and charged with having sex with a male student.
Kristina Ngum, an exceptional children’s teacher at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, turned herself in at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday. According to police, Ngum, 43, had sex with a male student at an undisclosed off-campus location. Authorities did not say when the alleged misconduct occurred. The age of the student was also not released.
The Charlotte Observer reports that police began investigating the teacher on Friday after detectives arrested the student on an unrelated drug charge. According to the Observer, the student begged Ngum to give him a ride home after school on Friday. She was pulled over by police shortly after, and police found an unspecified drug in the boy’s possession.
Ngum’s husband, who would not say his first name, said he did not believe the charges against his wife.
“That is not my wife,” he told the Observer in a phone interview. “She would not do that.”
This is not Ngum’s first run-in with the law. In 2011 she was arrested on charges of false pretense and misdemeanor larceny. In 2008 she was also convicted of driving while impaired.
Ngum is being held in the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office on a $2,500 secured bond.
