A Marine Corps veteran has penned a scathing letter to Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), a leading proponent of an assault weapons ban.

Cpl. Joshua Boston, a veteran of the Afghanistan war, is a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment right to bear arms. In his letter to Sen. Feinstein, a San Francisco progressive who has vowed to introduce a bill banning assault weapons in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school massacre that killed 27 people including 20 young children, Boston says he won’t register his guns even if such a law goes into effect. His letter, originally posted on CNN iReports, has gone viral. Here’s what Cpl. Boston wrote:

Senator Dianne Feinstein,

I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government’s right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same [as] a crime. You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corp veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.

I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America.

I am the man who fought for my country. I am the man who learned. I am an American. You will not tell me that I must register my semi-automatic AR-15 because of the actions of some evil man.

I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public.

We, the people deserve better than you.

Respectfully submitted,

Joshua Boston

Cpl, United States Marine Corps

2004-2012

Feinstein’s bill would ban 120 different guns. It would also ban large-capacity magazines holding more than 10 bullets. The senator promised to introduce the legislation as soon as possible after the 113th opened on January 3.

“I’m going to introduce in the Senate, and the same bill will be introduced in the House, a bill to ban assault weapons,” Feinstein said in December. “It will ban the sale, the transfer, the importation and the possession. Not retroactively but prospectively. And it will ban the same for big clips, drums or strips of more than 10 bullets.”

According to the US Centers for Disease Control, there were 31,347 gun deaths in the United States in 2011. The majority of these were suicides. By contrast, there were 34,385 motor vehicle fatalities. But due to declining auto accident deaths, firearm deaths are expected to exceed traffic fatalities by 2015 as the leading cause of non-medical death in the United States.

On two sites now I have seen this letter, and this Marine’s last name is reported differently. Is his last name Brown, or Boston, or Bolton?

“Cpl. Joshua Boston, a veteran of the Afghanistan war,” at the beginning of this article, then…

    “Respectfully submitted,

    Joshua Bolton

    Cpl, United States Marine Corps”

And then on the Washington Times site (http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/inside-politics/2013/jan/5/gun-owner-congress-i-am-not-your-servant/), the article states “An open letter from U.S. Marine Cpl. Joshua Brown” … and then the letter is signed “Respectfully Submitted,
    Joshua Boston
Cpl”.

I mean, seriously? Has no one noticed this? Is everyone here stoned or something? Show some attention to detail. This lack of professionalism and accuracy makes me seriously question why I should get any news from you.
