Barber Shop Discussion about Newtown Shooting Ends in Gunfire
According to police, Davis was at the All Cuts Barber Shop on West Pearce Blvd. in Wentzville on Tuesday when the conversation turned to last Friday’s Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. Heavily-armed gunman Adam Lanza killed 28 people, including 20 children, at the school.
One of the other patrons in the barber shop reportedly remarked that the massacre “makes me want to murder the suspect.” For some reason, Davis took the customer’s comment as a threat.
“You want to murder me?” he asked before leaving the barber shop. He returned with a loaded Smith & Wesson .9mm semiautomatic pistol and allegedly fired three shots in the offending customer’s direction. All three bullets missed. Davis then reportedly said, “I’ll let you slide” before leaving the shop for good.
Davis, who according to court records is a convicted felon who served prison time for second-degree homicide and unlawful possession of a weapon in the 1970s, later turned himself in.
Bail has been set at $400,000 cash.
