Pakistani Couple Murder Daughter for Talking to Boy
Reuters reports that the gruesome murder occurred in the town of Kotli, in Pakistani-administered Kashmir, on Thursday.
Mohammad Jahangir, a doctor at a local hospital, described the horrific attack.
“There were third-degree burns on her scalp, face, eyes, nostrils, both arms, chest, foot, and lower parts of legs. Even her scalp bone was exposed,” he told Reuters.
Jahangir said the girl’s parents initially claimed that their daughter poured the acid over herself in a suicide attempt.
Both parents have been arrested.
According to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, there were around 1,000 “honor killings” in the country in 2011.
Last month, Taliban gunmen shot 14-year-old Malala Yousufzai, who campaigned on behalf of girls’ education, in the head as she rode a bus home from school in the Swat Valley. Yousufzai is being treated for her severe injuries in Britain and is expected to recover.
