Bomb Thrown at Chicagoland Islamic School after Rep. Joe Walsh Warns Radical Islamists “Trying to Kill Americans”
A homemade bomb made from a 7-Up bottle filled with household chemicals was thrown at an Islamic school in a Chicago suburb during Ramadan prayers on Sunday night, terrifying worshippers but causing no injuries.
The attack occurred at the College Preparatory School of America in Lombard, about 21 miles west of Chicago, at around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday. Nobody was hurt by the blast, which although loud, did not break any windows or cause any significant damage to the building.
Lombard Deputy Police Chief Pat Rollins told the Chicago Tribune that the improvised explosive device was a “MacGyver bomb,” named after the 1980s television character who could make bombs out of ordinary household items. Such bombs, Rollins said, make a lot of noise but typically don’t cause much damage.
“it will scare you, he told the paper. “It is a mix of household chemicals that reacts to (aluminum) foil inside a (soda) bottle.”
No suspect has been arrested in connection with the bomb attack.
The bombing, which appears to be anti-Muslim in nature, happened on the same day that 51-year-old David Conrad opened fire on a mosque in Morton Grove, another Chicago suburb, with a high-velocity air rifle. No one was hurt in that attack either.
Just days before the apparent anti-Muslim attacks, Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL), a Tea Party-backed congressman, told a town hall meeting in Elk Grove that radical Muslims are “trying to kill Americans.”
