George W. Bush’s Decapitated Head Appeared in ‘Game of Thrones’ Episode

It wasn’t a political statement. It wasn’t personal. At least that’s what Games of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are claiming after an alert viewer posted a screenshot of former US President George W. Bush’s decapitated head on a pike on the social news site Reddit.

Bush’s head appeared in the Season One finale, “Fire and Blood,” in the scene when twisted tween-tyrant Joffrey forces Sansa Stark (hey, she wanted to be princess) to stare at the decapitated head of her father, the late, great Ned Stark. Bush’s made-up, wigged-up head is staked up on a pike next to poor Ned’s, but there’s really no way of telling who it belongs to.

But on the Season One DVD commentary, Benioff and Weiss spill the beans on themselves:

“The last head on the left is George Bush. George Bush’s head appears in a couple of beheading scenes. It’s not a choice, it’s not a political statement. We just had to use whatever head we had around.”

A Redditor named SidIncognito was obviously paying attention to the DVD commentary and posted the image of Bush’s head on Wednesday morning. “I see the resemblance now that they mention it,” he wrote.

Certain Republicans are not amused. Craig Eaton, president of the Brooklyn (NY) Republican Party, has even called for a boycott of the tremendously popular HBO series.

“Americans of all political persuasions should stand up and demand that things like this should not continue,” Eaton is quoted in the Daily Mail. “They should boycott watching this particular show.”

“Think about what people outside the country think when they see how Americans are disparaging their own former presidents,” Eaton added. Um, how about we take a moment to think about what people outside the country thought when they saw Americans elect Bush president not once, but twice. Well once, really…

Funny, Eaton and his ilk are more upset over Bush’s fake head appearing on a fantasy cable show than they are about the tens of thousands of innocent men, women and children slaughtered in Bush’s very real wars.
