‘Douche du Jour’: Roosevelt Mondesir Sets Naomi Breton on Fire at Florida 7-Eleven

A southern Florida woman has been hospitalized with severe burns to her face and body after the father of her son allegedly poured gasoline over her and set her on fire at a convenience store gas station early Monday morning.

WTSP reports that the horrific attack occurred around 3 a.m. at a 7-Eleven gas station in Boynton Beach where 34-year-old Naomi Breton went to meet 59-year-old Roosevelt Mondesir to discuss a custody issue relating to their four-year-old son.

When Breton saw that her son wasn’t in Mondesir’s white Jaguar, she headed back to her Mercedes-Benz to leave. Mondesir chased after her carrying a gas can and allegedly poured gasoline over the woman and her car.

According to a probable cause affidavit, he then lit the gasoline on fire and Breton was engulfed in flames. As she tried to remove her shirt and extinguish the fire, Mondesir allegedly came at her with a long knife or machete. The victim then fled into the store where employees called 911.

Breton’s shirt was still burning when police arrived and transported her to a local hospital. She suffered severe burns to her face and body.

Police tracked down Mondesir with the help of a K-9 unit. He was found hiding in some bushes near the site of the assault. He was arrested and taken to a nearby hospital for burn treatment.

Mondesir faces an attempted first-degree murder charge.

It is unclear why he attacked the woman.

The Florida assault was the third recent incident involving women being set on fire.

On May 20, 76-year-old clerk Nancy Harris was set alight during a gas station convenience store robbery in Garland, Texas. Harris, who suffered burns on more than 40 percent of her body, died on May 25. Matthew Johnson, 36, was arrested and charged with capital murder.

The following day, Latonya Bowman, a 22-year-old Detroit woman who was eight months pregnant, was set on fire and shot in the back. She gave birth by Caesarian section three days later. The baby’s father, Jamal Rogers, and his roommate Antonio Mathis, both 22, were arrested and charged with kidnapping, attempted murder and conspiracy. Rogers allegedly began planning the attack in March when he found out Bowman was pregnant with his third child.
