‘Douche du Jour’: Nepali Woman Mahadevi Yadav Beheads 3-Year-Old Nephew on Orders of Witchcraft Guru
A Nepalese woman allegedly beheaded her three-year-old nephew on the orders of her witchcraft guru, who told her she needed to sacrifice the child in order to complete her skills.
The New York Daily News reports that 25-year-old Mahadevi Yadav was arrested in Samanpur and charged with sacrificing three-year-old Nitesh Kumar Yadav at midnight Saturday.
Police say the woman has confessed to the killing, and that she was following instructions from her witchcraft guru.
“I had been learning witchcraft from Chhabilal Yadav of Haraiya for the past month,” she said. “He told me that my witchcraft skills would be complete only after the sacrifice of the nephew. Accordingly I took him at Bramhsthan and beheaded him on Saturday.”
Yadav then allegedly threw the boy’s severed head in the Bagmati River and buried his body.
Her guru then told her she’d have to sacrifice her eldest son as well.
Police started suspecting Yadav after she reported finding her victim’s body. She had reported him missing earlier.
Police officials said that Chhabilal, the guru, is still at large.
Rights activist Bipin Gautam told the New York Daily News that he was “shocked” by the horrific ritual murder.
“We are shocked to hear the news at a time when incidents of torture against women for allegedly practicing witchcraft are on the rise in the region,” he said.
In February, Dhegani Mahato, a 40-year-old mother from Bagauda, was burned alive after being accused by a shaman of casting a spell that made one of her relatives ill.
At least three other women branded as witches have been killed in recent weeks across the border in India.
