‘Douche de Jour’: National Review’s John Derbyshire Writes Rabidly Racist Screed Against Blacks

A prominent conservative writer has penend a shockingly racist screed against black Americans.

In a piece titled “The Talk: Nonblack Version” published in Taki’s Magazine, John Derbyshire of the bi-weekly, ultra-conservative and highly influential National Review takes aim at black Americans in a way rarely if ever seen since Jim Crow times.

Derbyshire begins by talking about “the talk,” the potentially life-saving advice that black parents give their teenage children. “Don’t put your hands in your pocket a lot. People will think you have a gun,” “don’t walk around with stuff in your pockets. People will think you stole something” and, of course, “don’t wear hoodies in gated communities”– that kind of stuff.

“Talk about the talk is all over,” he writes, but “there is a talk that nonblack Americans have with their kid, too.”

Derbyshire then posits that blacks are far more prone to antisocial behavior than whites. He asserts that around five percent of blacks are “ferociously hostile” toward whites and will go to “great lengths” to harm them. Around half of all blacks will go along with these monsters if they decide to inflict harm on a white person.

He also argues that “the mean intelligence of blacks is much lower than for whites,” and since “life is an IQ test,” he offers the following advice for white youth:

  • “Avoid concentrations of blacks not all known to you personally.”
  • “Stay out of heavily black neighborhoods.”
  • “If planning a trip to a beach or amusement park at some date, find out whether it is likely to be swamped with blacks on that date.”
  • “Do not attend events likely to draw a lot of blacks.”
  • “If you are at some public event at which the number of blacks suddenly swells, leave as quickly as possible.”
  • “Do not settle in a district or municipality run by black politicians.”
  • “Before voting for a black politician, scrutinize his/her character much more carefully than you would a white.”
  • “Do not act the Good Samaritan to blacks in apparent distress, e.g. on the highway.”

Derbyshire then advises whites to seek out “intelligent and well-socialized blacks,” who he calls “IWSBs.” These diamonds in the rough are “status markers” highly sought after by whites because they are “amulets against potentially career-destroying accusations of prejudice.” But unfortunately, “the demand is greater than the supply, so IWSBs are something of a luxury good, like antique furniture or corporate jets.”

“You don’t have to follow my version of the talk point for point,” Derbyshire concludes. “But if you are white or Asian and have kids, you owe it to them to give them some version of the talk. It will save them a lot of time and trouble spent figuring things out for themselves. It may save their lives.

The Huffington Post reports that National Review editor Rich Lowry has distanced himself from Derbyshire’s appalling rant. “Needless to say, no one at National Review shares Derb’s appalling view of what parents supposedly should tell their kids about blacks in this instantly notorious piece here,” he wrote on the magazine’s website. There is no word yet on whether the esteemed publication will take any disciplinary action against Derbyshire.

UPDATE: National Review editor Rich Lowry has announced that Derbyshire has been fired:

Anyone who has read Derb in our pages knows he’s a deeply literate, funny, and incisive writer. I direct anyone who doubts his talents to his delightful first novel, “Seeing Calvin Coolidge in a Dream,” or any one of his “Straggler” columns in the books section of NR. Derb is also maddening, outrageous, cranky, and provocative. His latest provocation, in a webzine, lurches from the politically incorrect to the nasty and indefensible. We never would have published it, but the main reason that people noticed it is that it is by a National Review writer. Derb is effectively using our name to get more oxygen for views with which we’d never associate ourselves otherwise. So there has to be a parting of the ways. Derb has long danced around the line on these issues, but this column is so outlandish it constitutes a kind of letter of resignation. It’s a free country, and Derb can write whatever he wants, wherever he wants. Just not in the pages of NR or NRO, or as someone associated with NR any longer.

Good riddance!
