Outrage Over Chops & Hops’ ‘Black and Bleu’ Sandwich, Named after Chris Brown’s Assault on Rihanna
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Chops & Hops steakhouse in Watkinsville, south of Athens, had introduced and promoted a ‘black and bleu’ sandwich named after Brown’s brutal 2009 attack on Rihanna.
The owners of the restaurant promoted the new sandwich on their Facebook page.
“Chris Brown, Rihanna and us teamed up for a (sic) award-winning celebrity sandwich. Put your hands on this Caribbean black and blue sandwich,” they wrote.
“Chris Brown won’t beat you up for eating this unless your name starts with a R and ends with A,” they continued in shocking poor taste.
The restaurant’s epic fail at culinary comedy has left a bad taste in the mouth of former customers.
“You’ve really blow it with this ad,” one irate Facebook user wrote. “Domestic violence is not a joking matter and never should be made to appear so. Mark us down as 2 lost customers.”
The restaurant’s owners responded quickly to the storm of criticism, removing the offending sandwich from the menu.
“The owners of C&H would like to make sure everyone knows that we and our staff DO NOT SUPPORT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE,” the owners wrote on their Facebook wall. “Many of us have been affected by domestic violence in some manner and realize that this is no joke.”
The managers of the restaurant also announced that they would donate six times the amount made on the sales of the sandwich to the anti-domestic violence non-profit Project Safe Team 6.
