#Horny2012: Jason Russell, Invisible Children Co-Founder & ‘Kony 2012’ Creator, Detained in San Diego for Public Masturbation

The co-founder of Invisible Children, the group behind the wildly popular Kony 2012 video, has been detained in California for being drunk and masturbating in public.

NBC San Diego reports that 33-year-old Jason Russell, who created the Kony 2012 documentary, was found masturbating in public, vandalizing cars and possibly under the influence of something, according to the San Diego Police Department. He was detained in Pacific Beach on Thursday morning after police received several calls of a semi-naked man running through traffic and screaming.

Police say Russell was in his underwear, which he took off at one point but put back on by the time officers found him. Bystanders attempted to calm him down and officers say he was cooperative.

“He was no problem for the police department however, during the evaluation we learned that we probably needed to take care of him,” an SDPD spokesperson said at a press conference. “We determined that medical treatment was a better course of action than arrest.”

Russell was then transported to a medical center. Invisible Children CEO Ben Keesey released the following statement on Friday:

“Jason Russell was unfortunately hospitalized yesterday suffering from exhaustion, dehydration, and malnutrition. He is now receiving medical care and is focused on getting better. The past two weeks have taken a severe emotional toll on all of us, Jason especially, and that toll manifested itself in an unfortunate incident yesterday. Jason’s passion and his work have done so much to help so many, and we are devastated to see him dealing with this personal health issue. We will always love and support Jason, and we ask that you give his entire family privacy during this difficult time.”

Invisible Children is a San Diego-based  not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of atrocities committed by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), a brutal Ugandan rebel terrorist group headed by Joseph Kony. He’s the subject of Kony 2012, which since going viral earlier this month has been viewed by nearly 80 million people. Russell is one of the people who created that documentary.

Russell is married with two children.
