Dorothy Bond, Tennessee High School Principal, Resigns After Telling Gay Students “You’re Going to Hell”

A high school principal in Tennessee has resigned after telling gay students that they’re going to hell and that pregnant students’ lives were over.

According to ABC 24, Principal Dorothy Bond of Haywood High School in Brownsville, Tennessee, who is no stranger to courting controversy, singled out LGBT and pregnant students during a recent student assembly.

Good riddance.

“At first she was talking about PDA and she turned around and she directly pointed to the gay people and said if you’re gay you’re going to hell and if you’re pregnant, you’re life is over,” student Amber Whittiemore told ABC 24.

According to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Bond also said that single mothers end up “jobless, homeless, and living off the government.”

“When I heard about it, I was outraged,” parent Tony Snipes told ABC 24.

Apparently, this isn’t the first time that Bond has publicly berated homosexuals.

“A couple of years ago when she was principal over at Sunny Hill one of my children had his hair in braids. At an assembly she told the young men if they’re sitting between the legs of a girl getting their hair braided for a few hours, that they must be gay,” Snipes told ABC 24.

Other parents told the station they supported Bond.

“I’m behind her, I’m behind her 100 percent,” said Jeff Hooper. “Whatever she said, she loves those kids. She taught them from the ground up; she has their best interest at heart,” he added.

But Snipes disagreed.

“That’s not her role. Her role as educator, as principal, is to encourage them regardless of their circumstances or situations,” he told ABC 24. “With remarks she made I personally believe she does not need to be a principal in Haywood County Schools anymore.”

And she’s not. According to The Tennessean, Bond has resigned her post over the incident.

Good riddance!

I am sorry she lost her job, but this is a tough issue. What happens when the person believes that gay things are immoral, just like overeating is immoral? I think the answer is to be nice to the person but also to discourage the harmful behavior. There are some people who simply overeat as a disorder.

Being gay is not immoral, any more than being heterosexual is. Gays love those of the same sex, heterosexuals love those of the opposite sex. Neither is any better or more moral than the other. To even imply otherwise is to be guilty of an anachronistic bigotry that is fast going the way of the dinosaurs.
