Paula the Penguin Poops on Kentucky Senate President David Williams’ Desk

An African blackfooted penguin took a dump on the desk of Kentucky’s state senate president on Tuesday. Really. What on earth was an African blackfooted penguin doing on the floor of the Kentucky state senate, you ask?

The Raw Story reports that the critter, whose name is Paula, was brought to the senate session by Senate President Pro Tem Katie Stine (R-Southgate), who was giving a presentation honoring the Newport Aquarium ”for its outstanding contributions to the ecology of our world and the economy of Kentucky through tourism.”

“Are we talking about the penguin that just defecated on the floor?” state Senate President David Williams (R-Burkesville) asked.

“Actually, senator, I believe that’s your desk,” Stine retorted. “I do apologize for that.”

“Well, let’s see if Miss Kentucky can top that!” Williams shot back, referring to Ann-Blair Thornton, who is scheduled to appear before the august body in the near future. I don’t even want to imagine how Ms. Thornton would go about topping that.
