U.S. Army Investigating Video of Soldiers Cheering as Colleague Beats Sheep to Death with Baseball Bat
The U.S. Army is investigating a sickening video in which a group of soldiers cheers as a man beats a sheep to death with a baseball bat in Afghanistan.
The Army Times reports that the U.S.-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (ISAF) confirmed that the Army Criminal Investigation Command is examining the video, which appeared on the site Live Leak last November, to determine the identities of the men in it.
In the video, a child leads a sheep into a room of what appear to be uniformed American soldiers. A man in black then attacks the helpless animal with an aluminum baseball bat, whacking it repeatedly over the head until it falls lifeless to the ground. The soldiers cheer the batsman on; one of them calls the attacker a “pussy” when he hesitates for a second.
“We are aware of a Live Leak video depicting the killing of a sheep,” an ISAF spokesman told the Army Times.
“The actions of those involved are not condoned or supported in any way. We are currently assessing the situation to determine more information.”
The news comes just days after video emerged of U.S. Marines urinating on the corpses of dead Taliban fighters in Afghanistan and on the same day of reports of Afghan protests over a deadly U.S. night raid that resulted in the deaths of six innocent civilians, including a woman and a child.
