Iranian Actress Golshifteh Farahani Banned from Home Country over Nude ‘Madame Le Figaro’ Photo

A highly acclaimed Iranian actress who has starred alongside the likes of Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio has been barred from returning to her home country because she posed nude for a French magazine in protest against Islamic repression.

According to Mail Online, 28-year-old Golshifteh Farahani says she was contacted by the Iranian government and told that she is no longer welcome in the Islamic Republic and advising her not to return there again.

Farahani posed for a nude, black-and-white photo which appeared in the French publication Madame Le Figaro. Farahani’s hands are covering her breasts; the whole thing is rather PG-rated by Western standards. But not in Iran, where such displays by women are unthinkable. Farahani then posted the photo on her Facebook page.

Farahani now lives in Paris. She told the Daily Telegraph that she was told by an official of Iran’s culture ministry that “Iran does not need any actors or artists. You may offer your artistic services somewhere else.”

That’s Iran’s loss. The acclaimed actress, who is also an accomplished pianist, began her acting career on stage at age six. She starred in her first film, The Pear Tree, in 1998, at age 14, winning Best Actress honors at Iran’s Fajr Film Festival. Her meteoric rise from there includes roles in 2007’s Santoori, banned in Iran, as well asM For Mother (2006), which was chosen as Iran’s ‘Best Foreign Film’ entry for the 2008 Academy Awards. In 2008, Faharani appeared in Ridley Scott’s Body of Lies, in which she played a nurse and starred alongside Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio. She is the first Iranian actress to appear in a major Hollywood film.

That role got her banned from leaving Iran. But now that she’s living in Paris, Iranian officials don’t want her returning to the Islamic Republic.

    Dear Brett,
thank you for your informative article.

the above comment above just goes to prove how much people are suppressed in Iran. When people do not even believe that they have any freedom and rights, they judge others with the same standards.

as an Iranian girl I am proud that she did posed for Madam Le FIgaro, she is not even nude in my opinion, eat your hearts out you dictator loving people. You are so low that cannot even see others feeling and enjoying freedom. Freedom is a right given to us! But these rights are stripped away from Women in particular in Iran.

Iran with all its history and culture is gone so low, that only people like Golshifteh and Artist are keeping us proud these days, giving some moral and spiritual support to the people.

or would you say where in history ALL OVER THE WORLD
It’s her right to do what she wants, we all are “free” to choose which way to live…you can be proud of being naked(half naked or anything else) and one may be proud of
