‘Douche du Jour’ Pinkberry Founder Young Lee Arrested for Beating Homeless L.A. Man with Tire Iron
The founder of a popular international frozen yogurt chain has been arrested in Los Angeles on a warrant for allegedly beating a homeless beggar with a tire iron last June.
According to ABC News, Young Lee was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport as he arrived in the United States from Korea on Monday.
Lee, a former kick boxer and bouncer from South Korea, founded Pinkberry along with Hyekyung “Shelly” Hwang in 2005 in Los Angeles. The popular frozen yogurt chain has since gone global.
Lee is accused of chasing down and brutally beating a homeless beggar who approached his rented Range Rover in downtown Los Angeles on June 15, 2011. Witnesses picked Lee from a police photo lineup and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the homeless victim was changing his shirt when Lee saw a sexually explicit tattoo of a man and woman having sex and took offense to it. He rolled down the window and commanded the man to get on his knees and apologize, which he did, but Lee and his passenger attacked him anyway.
“This case is emblematic of how the homeless are among the most vulnerable in our society,” a statement from Los Angeles police Lieutenant Paul Vernon read. ”Despite the challenges in the case, the detectives never gave up and eventually found the victim after leads took them to Skid Row and the local jail.”
