Report: Israeli Mossad Agents Posed as CIA Operatives to Recruit Jundullah Terrorists in Covert War Against Iran
Israeli spies posing as American CIA operatives attempted to recruit members of a terror group to carry out covert attacks against Iran.
So says Foreign Policy’ s Mark Perry in a scathing new article that details how Mossad agents posing as American spies carried out a ‘false flag’ operation in London. False flag operations are covert actions intended to deceive others into believing they were carried out by a party other than the one who actually did the deed.
Perry’s article begins:
Buried deep in the archives of America’s intelligence services are a series of memos, written during the last years of President George W. Bush’s administration, that describe how Israeli Mossad officers recruited operatives belonging to the terrorist group Jundallah by passing themselves off as American agents. According to two U.S. intelligence officials, the Israelis, flush with American dollars and toting U.S. passports, posed as CIA officers in recruiting Jundallah operatives — what is commonly referred to as a “false flag” operation.
Israel’s chutzpah in carrying out such an operation enraged top U.S. officials, one of whom is quoted as saying “It’s amazing what the Israelis thought they could get away with.”
Jundallah is a Sunni terrorist organization based in Pakistan that is responsible for carrying out dozens of terror attacks and assassinations inside Iran. More than 150 people have been killed and more than 300 injured in attacks attributable to the group since 2003.
Iranian intelligence once believed that the CIA was supporting Jundullah. It turns out they were fooled by the Israeli false flag operation too.
The Iranians can’t be faulted for believing the United States was supporting Jundullah. It is a poorly-kept secret that the U.S. is backing anti-regime terrorist groups responsible for deadly attacks inside Iran. This, despite Washington’s bashing of Tehran over its support for anti-Israel proxies such as Hezbollah and Hamas.
Like the Jundullah, the People’s Mujahedin of Iran (known by their Farsi acronym, the M.E.K.), is on the State Department’s list of terrorist organizations. M.E.K. carried out a string of attacks in the 1970s (when Washington supported the Shah) in which six U.S. officials were assassinated. But that didn’t matter much to high-ranking Bush officials like Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, John Ashcroft and leading Republicans in Congress, all of whom strongly supported utilizing the M.E.K. to do America’s dirty work in Iran. Former C.I.A. officer Philip Giraldi says that U.S. special forces have supervised M.E.K. reconnaissance and intelligence gathering missions inside Iran so that the Pentagon can identify potential targets for an American attack.
Then there’s the wave of assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists, the latest of whom, Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, was killed in a motorbike bomb attack earlier this week. The U.S. has denied involvement in the killing while coyly hinting that it has “some idea” who’s behind it. Tehran says it has proof the United States killed Roshan in the form of ”credible documents that prove the terror attack was planned, supervised and supported by the CIA;” no actual evidence has yet been released.
