U.S. War Crime: Video Shows Marines Urinating on Dead Taliban Fighters
A video showing what appears to be U.S. Marines urinating on the corpses of Taliban fighters has appeared online, prompting widespread outrage — and, disgustingly, support.
According to the Marine Corps Times, the 40-second clip, titled “Marines peeing on Taliban,” was first posted on YouTube by a user known as “sempefiLoneVoice.” The men in the video are identified as members of a scout sniper team assigned to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
“I thought Marines were suppose (sic) to do the right thing when no one is watching,” wrote semperfiLoneVoice.
The video, which is posted below, shows four men in Marine combat uniforms standing around three dead and bloodied bodies. The Marines talk and joke while urinating on the corpses. One of the Americans says “have a good day, buddy.” Another zips up his pants and says “golden like a shower.”
Capt. Kendra Hardesty, a Marine Corps spokeswoman at the Pentagon, said that once the information in the video is confirmed, the unit involved will carry out an investigation of the alleged offense, which under the Geneva Convention is considered a war crime.
“The actions portrayed are not consistent with our core values and are not indicative of the character of the Marines in our Corps,” a Marine Corps statement reads. “This matter will be fully investigated.”
A Pentagon spokesman, Navy Capt. John Kirby said the video showed “egregious, disgusting behavior.” Kirby told CNN that it “turned my stomach.”
On the Marine Corps Times Facebook page, there were comments condemning as well as supporting the alleged war crime.
“Americans are supposed to be civilized are they not regardless of what others do?” wrote Andrena Millington. “It’s stunts like this that feed the enemy and give cause to their wars. Disgrace.”
“No public Rest Rooms, as the whole country is a toilet, one adapts , improvises and adapts,” quipped Greg Sims.
“Semper Fi Devil Dogs, War is Hell keep up the great work and PISS on Them ALL!” wrote Bill Sloan. “EFFF the Taliban and the bleeding hearts that think they should be treated with dignity.”
One commenter even admitted to committing worse war crimes than what’s depicted in the video.
“Fucking bullshit. I’ve done a lot worse in Afghanistan … Just saying,” wrote Gabriel Esteban Sosa. “People need to stop being so damn liberal and pro-enemy. We’re doing ourselves in, feeding our Marines to the wolves over something like this that has been done repeatedly.”
