NYC Papa John’s Employee Fired After Calling Customer Minhee Cho “Lady Chinky Eyes” on Receipt
An employee at a New York City Papa John’s pizza outlet has been fired after calling an Asian-American customer a racist name on her receipt.
According to ABC News, customer Minhee Cho was called “lady chinky eyes” on her store receipt.
Cho promptly posted a photo of the racist receipt on Twitter, and by yesterday it had gone viral.
She also let the offending business know how she felt about the incident.
“Hey @PapaJohns just FYI my name isn’t ‘lady chinky eyes,’” she tweeted.
Complaints poured in on Twitter as the company announced that the offending employee would be fired.
“We are very upset by recent receipt issue in New York & sincerely apologize to our customer,” Papa John’s, which operates over 3,300 outlets around the world, tweeted. “Franchise employee involved is being terminated.”
This is the second time in as many months that Asian-Americans have been called racist names on restaurant receipts. Last month, a cashier at a Chick-fil-A restaurant, known more for its support for anti-gay hate groups, called a pair of male Asian customers “Ching” and “Chong” on their receipts.
