Jakadrien Turner, Dallas Runaway Teen Missing Since 2010, Mistakenly Deported by I.C.E. to Colombia
An African-American teenager from Dallas who speaks no Spanish was mistakenly deported to Colombia by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) last April, where she is now pregnant and in government custody.
According to WFAA, 14-year-old Jakadrien Turner ran away from home in the November, 2010. Distraught over the death of her grandfather and her parents’ divorce, she somehow ended up in Houston 240 miles away. There, police arrested her for theft. Turner gave authorities a fake name, which matched the name of a 22-year-old undocumented immigrant from Colombia with multiple warrants out for her arrest.
That’s when ICE officials got involved with Turner’s case. Without confirming the girl’s identity, ICE deported Turner to Colombia. That country’s government issued her a work card and set her free. She allegedly worked as a house cleaner.
Lorene Turner, Jakadrien’s grandmother, searched relentlessly for her.
“Once I get home I am up until 3 or 4 in the morning searching and looking,” Lorene told WFAA. “It’s all I can think about. Finding my baby.”
Lorene claims that ‘god’ led her to Jakadrien. ”I wake up in the middle of the night and do whatever God told me to do, and I found her,” she told WFAA.
Actually, it was diligent Facebook searches and help from the Dallas Police Department that led to finding Jakadrien in South America.
The problem is, Colombian authorities have locked the girl up in a detention facility and refuses to release her despite Lorene’s requests. The 15-year-old is reportedly pregnant.
“I feel like she will come home,” a teary-eyed Lorene told WFAA. “I just need help and prayer.”
ICE is investigating the incident.
“ICE takes these allegations very seriously,” ICE Director of Public Affairs Brian Hale told WFAA ” At the direction of [the Department of Homeland Security], ICE is fully and immediately investigating this matter in order to expeditiously determine the facts of this case.”
