Mom Says Emanyea Lockett, Age 9, Suspended for Sexual Harassment for Calling Teacher “Cute”

A nine-year old elementary school student in Gastonia, North Carolina has been suspended for sexual harassment. His crime? Having a crush on his teacher and telling another student he thought she was “cute,” his mother claims.

According to WSOCTV, fourth-grader Emanyea Lockett was punished after a substitute teacher at Brookside Elementary School in Gastonia reportedly overheard him tell another student that a teacher was “cute.” Emanyea was then sent to the principal’s office and suspended for “inappropriate behavior.” School rules punish “disruption of school” by up to five days of out-of-school suspension. Emanyea got two days.

“It’s not like he went up to the woman and tried to grab her or touch her in a sexual way,” Chiquita Lockett, Emanyea’s mother, told WSOCTV. “So why would he be suspended for two days?”

This is the second high-profile case involving an elementary school student and “sexual harassment” to make national headlines this week. In Boston, seven-year-old Mark Curran is being investigated by officials at Tynan Elementary School after he struck another boy in the groin.
