GOP Frontrunner Newt Gingrich Says Poor Children Are ‘Lazy Criminals’
Of all the Republican presidential hopefuls, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is known as the thinker of the bunch. The frontrunner-of-the-month has come up with some truly revolutionary ideas, like scrapping child labor laws and firing all of our nation’s school janitors and replacing them with poor children.
Gingrich’s admirable concern for the poor was on full display yet again yesterday. Addressing a crowd in Iowa, he reiterated his support for ridding America of burdensome child labor laws. He also called poor children lazy criminals, in so many words.
“Really poor children, in really poor neighborhoods have no habits of working and have nobody around them who works so they have no habit of showing up on Monday,” he opined. “They have no habit of staying all day, they have no habit of I do this and you give me cash, unless it is illegal.”
Now, I’m sure Gingrich has spent plenty of time getting to know people in America’s poorest neighborhoods– at least as much time as he spent among the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ protesters who he admonished to “go get a job right after you take a bath.” So don’t you dare say that Newt suffers from a near-delusional disconnect from reality. This is a man, after all, who knows all about taking cash for dubious purposes: even Jack Abramoff, arguably the King of Washington Corruption, has slammed Gingrich for cashing in on his role as former House Speaker by accepting more than a million bucks from troubled home loan giant Freddie Mac. “I do this and you give me cash” indeed! And speaking of lazy, Gingrich still hasn’t satisfactorily explained why he took two years to get around to paying off a six-figure jewelry bill at Tiffany’s.
Maybe he’s just not that familiar with paying such large bills. After all, someone who is so attuned to the needs and habits of the poor must have truly been a fish out of water in such a rarefied establishment of the “one percent.”
And maybe Michelle Bachmann really loves homosexuals.
