‘The Moral High Ground’: Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputies Refuse to Evict 103-Year-Old Vita Lee from her Foreclosed Atlanta Home of 53 Years

Atlanta-area police and a moving company hired by a bank to evict a 103-year-old woman and her 83-year-old daughter from their foreclosed home of 53 years have refused to carry out their odious task.

According to WSBTV, Vita Lee and her daughter were only moments away from being booted from their home in northwest Atlanta when Fulton County Sheriff’s deputies and a moving company hired by Deutsche Bank decided they would not proceed with the eviction.

“I knew that they know what they were doing,” Lee, who is just three weeks shy of her 104th birthday, told WSBTV. “God don’t let them do wrong,” she said.

“I saw the sheriffs, who came to put them out, take off and leave. I gave all glory to God,” community activist Michael Langford told WSBTV.

Divine intervention it was not, but the courage and compassion of the Fulton County Sheriff’s deputies who defied the corporate rulers is a heavenly holiday gift for Lee and her daughter, who had to be hospitalized from all the stress surrounding the averted eviction.

Vita Lee will remain in her home for now. Family members told WSBTV that they have enough money to pay the loan, but Chase (who is servicing the Deutsche Bank mortgage) has been giving them the run-around. Deutsche Bank, it should be noted, was sued this May by the U.S. government for repeatedly lying to secure federal guarantees on mortgages it issued.

“Please don’t come in and disturb me no more,” Lee pleaded to WSBTV. “When I’m gone you all can come back and do whatever they want to.”
