Patrick J. Sullivan Jr., Former ‘Sheriff of the Year’, Arrested in Gay Sex-for-Meth Sting; Locked Up in Jail Named After Him

Another one from the “you-can’t-make-this-shit-up” files:

A former Colorado ‘Sheriff of the Year’ has been busted offering drugs in exchange for gay sex, and in a cruel (or sweet, depending on how you look at it) twist has been locked up in a jail named after him.

According to CBS 4 Denver, former Arapahoe County Sheriff Patrick J. Sullivan Jr., a renowned law enforcement leader once named by President Bill Clinton to the National Commission on Crime Prevention and Control, was arrested on suspicion of trafficking methamphetamines. Sullivan, the 2001 National Sheriffs’ Association ‘Sheriff of the Year,’ allegedly agreed to meet a male informant and give him meth in exchange for sex. He was then arrested by the South Metro Drug Task Force.

Now Patrick J. Sullivan Jr. is the newest inmate at the Patrick J. Sullivan Detention Facility, named, as you can probably guess, in his honor. He is being held on $250,000 bond.

The 68-year-old Sullivan had been Arapahoe County Sheriff for 19 years. He retired in 2002 and became director of safety and security for Cherry Creek Schools. As recently as 2008 he’d been involved with both state and local meth task forces.

Current Arapahoe County sheriff Grayson Robinson told CBS 4: “The allegations of criminal behavior involving Pat Sullivan are extraordinarily disturbing. While the arrest of the former sheriff is very troubling, no one, and particularly a former peace officer, is above the law. This is the most shocking thing I’ve ever been involved with.”
