Mitt Romney: God Created the United States to Lead the World
Republican presidential front runner Mitt Romney, appearing before cadets at a South Carolina military college, proclaimed that ‘God’ created the United States to lead the world and that President Obama has willfully weakened the nation.
“God did not create this country to be a nation of followers. America is not destined to be one of several equally balanced global powers,” Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, told cadets at the Citadel.
“America must lead the world, or someone else will,” he added.
“I will never, ever apologize for America,” the GOP presidential hopeful stated, echoing the words spoken by President George H. W. Bush after a U.S. Navy ship shot down an Iranian civilian airliner in 1988. That act of American aggression killed 290 innocent people, including 66 children.
Romney also accused President Obama of surrendering America’s global leadership role. “An eloquently justified surrender of world leadership is still surrender,” he said.
“This is very simple: If you do not want America to be the strongest nation on Earth, I am not your President,” Romney declared, adding: “You have that President today.”
I don’t know which is scarier, Romney’s belief that an imaginary friend created this country to rule the world or the fact that he is hell-bent on continuing the imperial policies that have caused so much pain and suffering across the globe, including the September 11, 2001 terror attacks on New York and Washington, DC. Romney has clearly stated that his will be an imperial presidency.
Perhaps there’s nothing new to that, after all, America has been an empire since almost the earliest days of its existence. But today we are faced with a stark choice: continue along the path of imperialism despite our irrefutable decline, or face the music and redirect our national energies toward fixing the myriad social and economic problems that afflict us here at home.
Romney, nor any Republican or Democrat, is likely to ever choose the latter. And that’s why Moral Low Ground will endorse neither President Obama nor any of the Republican candidates currently leading the pack. Only an independent, third-party president can roll back the empire. Too bad we’ve been brainwashed into glum acceptance of the Republicrat stranglehold on what’s left of our democracy.
