In a Chance Encounter, Kathy Griffin Asked Michele Bachmann: “Were You Born a Bigot?”
Actress, comedian, TV personality, gay rights advocate and best-selling author Kathy Griffin appeared on Conan last night, where she described a chance encounter with Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann on a Washington, DC escalator.
“So I met Michele Bachmann… cuckoo! cuckoo,” Griffin began. “She’s a comedian’s dream. I don’t know if she’s great for the country, but she’s great for comedy… I got on an escalator, Michele Bachmann gets on, and someone from her staff pulls out a flip-cam. And they didn’t tell me why they were taping it, but you know she had to think I was Kathy Lee Gifford or something, ’cause it doesn’t make sense for her to want to talk to me… And so, I said ‘Congresswoman Bachmann, I am holding a rally… to help repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, may I count on your support?’ ‘Cause she’s not so down with the gays and not so liberal. And she said ‘I don’t think so’… And then I couldn’t miss the moment, so I turned to her and I said: ‘Congresswoman Bachmann, were you born a bigot, or did you grow into it?’ Her answer was priceless. She said: ‘That’s a good question. I’m going to have to get back to you.'”
