‘Douche du Jour’: Angry Michigan State Medical Student Andrew David Thompson Killed 13 Greyhounds
A Michigan State University medical student is behind bars, charged with killing 13 Italian greyhounds out of anger and frustration.
According to the Lansing State Journal, 24-year-old Andrew David Thompson confessed to investigators that he killed the small, fragile dogs on separate occasions by throwing them to the ground or against a wall, grabbing them by the neck or beating them to death.
After killing the dogs, Thompson “kind of freaked out,” according to Ingham County Animal Control Deputy Jodi LeBombard. “Typically, he’d put a deceased dog in a garbage bag, along with its clothes, collars and other items,” she testified at a June 24 hearing. “He would cry all the way to the dumpster, and throw it in the dumpster,” she added.
Thompson killed the dogs at his Okemos apartment and at an East Lansing complex near the Michigan State University campus. Authorities were alerted by an anonymous complaint that said puppies owned by the medical student kept disappearing. When investigators searched his apartment, they found a severely injured puppy in his closet. His roommate told police that he lost count of the number of dogs that Thompson killed or had disappeared.
Thompson, who admitted he killed the dogs out of anger and frustration over housebreaking or obedience issues, was suspended from MSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine on June 23.
He was reportedly receiving psychiatric help; his therapist says he may be a suicide risk.
Thompson is facing 10 felony counts of animal killing in a Mason court and three additional charges in a East Lansing court. He could be locked up for as long as four years if convicted. He is currently being held in the Ingham County Jail two bonds totaling $600,000.
