‘Douche du Jour’: Married Ohio Republican Robert Mecklenborg Arrested for D.U.I. with Woman in Car

Robert Mecklenborg is a member of the Ohio House of Representatives. He is a Republican. Representing conservative Cincinnati, he sits on the House Judiciary and Ethics Committee. He is also a married father of three children.

Politically, Mecklenborg has been the driving force behind a  piece of legislation that will effectively restrict voters’ access to the ballot box, a bill that includes language that requires anyone wanting to vote in Ohio to show government-issued identification, such as a drivers’ license, at the polling place.

Here’s where things get interesting.

Over Easter weekend, Rep. Mecklenborg was stopped by an Indiana state trooper while driving in Lawrenceburg. His Lexus had a burnt-out headlight. The trooper smelled alcohol on the lawmaker’s breath; he also had bloodshot eyes. After failing multiple sobriety tests, Mecklenborg was placed under arrest.

Oh, and in the car with him was Tiona Roberts, a 26-year-old woman who some sources say is connected with the nearby Concepts Lounge Showgirls strip club, which Yelp reviewers say is a great place to stop if you “need a quick bit of action before or after” gambling at the nearby Hollywood Casino.

In addition to alcohol, Rep. Mecklenborg was also found to have Viagra in his blood.

One last thing.

When arrested, authorities most likely confiscated Mecklenborg’s driver’s license in accordance with Indiana DUI laws and procedures. The Ohio lawmaker is due in an Indiana court on July 26. But he has requested that his house colleagues return to the Ohio state capitol in Columbus on July 12 or 13 to consider his voter ID bill. How ironic– the man behind a drive to disenfranchise Ohio voters by requiring them to show government ID will be without his driver’s license when possibly voting on his own bill.

I know with stories like this you like to point out when they are Republicans, but that isn’t productive. Bad behavior knows no party boundaries… (Weiner,Blagojevich, etc)

Absolutely! You forgot John Edwards! I did post about Weiner, and I am an incessant critic of President Obama, who I consider little more than an extension of the Bush administration. I do not differentiate between Republicans and Democrats, whom I refer to as “Republicrats” because they are basically the same party. That being said, you must admit that Republicans are easier targets because A) they get into these messes much more frequently, and B) their trumpeting of “family values” makes their hypocrisy all the more delicious to slam! Thanks for reading.
