5-Year-Old Shoots 4-Year-Old on Maryland Playground
A five-year-old boy has shot and injured a four-year-old boy on a playground outside a Maryland apartment complex.
According to the Washington Times, the shooting occurred in Temple Hills, in Prince George’s County. The paper reports that officers responded to a call around 4 pm yesterday. They found the little boy, who had been shot once according to county police spokesman Cpl. Mike Rodriguez. NBC Washington reports that the victim was shot clear through his shoulder, with the bullet narrowly missing his heart.
Police found the gun hidden nearby; the five-year-old shooter ran away.
The victim was rushed to Children’s Hospital in Washington, DC. His injuries are not life-threatening.
Officers have interviewed the parents of both boys in an attempt to discern who owns the weapon and how it got into the hands of a five-year-old child. They may involve the Department of Social Services if parental negligence is found to have contributed to the shooting.
The Times reports that three people have been killed on the same block as this shooting occurred; just last week a 23-year-old man was also killed at another nearby playground.
