Michele Bachmann Says she has the ‘Spirit’ of a Serial Killer

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) appeared in Waterloo, Iowa today , where she formally announced her candidacy for President. The location was significant for more than the obvious reasons having to do with the Iowa caucuses; Bachmann was born and grew up in Waterloo. She should’ve known better than to say what she said before her official announcement, but apparently she didn’t. The darling of Tea Partiers and fundamentalist Christians committed another one of her many verbal gaffes when inadvertenly speaking about Waterloo’s most (in)famous native son:

“Well what I want them to know is just like, John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That’s the kind of spirit that I have, too,” she told Fox News prior to her big announcement. Yes, John Wayne, he of silver screen immortality, was from Iowa. But as the conservative Washington Times points out, the legendary Duke was from Winterset, three hours’ drive from Waterloo.

There was, however, another John Wayne, and he did hail from Waterloo. I’m talking about John Wayne Gacy, the notorious “Killer Clown” serial murderer who raped and slaughtered 33 teenage boys and young men in the 1970s before being caught, convicted and executed in 1994.

The wrong John Wayne, Michele!

Some spirit to have, Michele!

Of course, Bachmann did not mean to imply that she shared any spiritual kinship with a brutal serial killer. But like I said, being from Waterloo and all, and from around the same time as Gacy was doing his thing, she ought to have known better.

But this is Michele Bachmann we’re talking about, a woman who’s committed more verbal blunders (and outright lies) than just about any other politician on the national stage today. I’m not just saying that– non-partisan Politifact, which tracks the veracity of politicians’ words, actually named Bachmann America’s least credible politician.

But that shouldn’t matter much to her core constituency, a fact-phobic lot who don’t place much stock in readin’, writin’, science or truth. As for the rest of us, we can only watch with a combination of amusement and horror as another  fundamentalist jumps into the fray of the Republican presidential race. But perhaps even more horrifying than the likes of Michele Bachman, Newt Gingrich, Tim Pawlenty, Rick Santorum or Herman Cain is the thought that one of these right-wing reactionaries could actually defeat Barack Obama in 2012!

All hail to Astroturf TeaBparty Queen (ASQ), Michele Bachmann. Isn’t she the one that who rails against the Federal Government while every year she benefits from farm subsidies and adopts kids to work them on same farm. Oh yeah she is also a self-proclaimed historian on the US Founding Fathers and US history. The sad truth she will lie to get her way, what honor is there in that? But if you manipulate our US history and double down when you are found out, well don’t go crying to Fake News when you lose. Kind of like the Former half-term Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (Most recent quitter of her Bus Tour to restore America). We remember what happen when after “W” manipulate Florida (w/ the help of brother Jebb Bush) to win the presidency and his failure to win any of the two wars he started that devastated our treasury and ruined our economy for the next 50 years. If the GOP thinks that Michele Bachmann is the answer, good luck with that.

    Hey Brett,

I guess I have to post a comment here since I cannot comment on your FB… Are you intimidated by strong women who disagree with you? This is a rhetorical question btw. I take it that you never watched a Western Movie growing up?! But you have for sure keep up with your “serial killers” bio. Good for you “free market socialist”! keeping it real

If you’d ever met my better half, you’d know how ridiculous your “rhetorical question” is! What in heaven’s name does the fact that Michele Bachman is a woman have to do with her penchant for moronic commentary? I despised the policies of Bush-era Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, yet I never wrote disparagingly of her peerless intellectual prowess. Ditto Hillary Clinton, who, despite the fact that I disagree with most everything she stands for, I respect for her brilliant mind. Yet in your simplistically blinkered analysis of my post based, no doubt, on the fact that Rep. Bachmann shares your scientifically invalid opinions on the origins of life on Earth and has positioned herself as the voice of Christian fundamentalism, you overlooked the fact that Bachmann’s sex has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that she is a joke. And as we know from past elections, jokes can become Presidents, and that makes Bachmann a dangerous woman. It is, therefore, necessary for me to speak out against her at every opportunity. As for not being able to comment on my FB, why not? I have not blocked you in any way.

You know what this current crowd of GOP liars want is to turn the United Sates into China, where only a few giant corporations run things, they own the factories, the apartments, the grocery stores, the gas stations, the newspaper and magazine publications, the radio stations, the television stations and you pay them and they get all the benefits, and if you do not like it go jump off cliff. Well some Chinese workers seeing that as individuals that they cannot progress have done just that by committing suicide. The current crowd of GOP liars want to abolish Medicare from the elderly, they want to abolish a woman’s right to choose and have control over her own body, they want to abolish collective bargaining rights for our Unions, and on top of it all they want to blame the poor, the middle class and the public sector workers for a recession that the GOP created (Thanks to the Dullard “W”), while their beloved “Fat cats” continue to pay themselves exorbitant salaries, bonuses, fringe benefits. Yes this is the GOP “Radical Right-Wing Social Engineering” that they dream about. The win in New York was the beginning but the next will be Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin and later the other states of our nation, watch out we are coming for you!
